Qualified librarian with an Assistant and 2 technical staff for periodical maintenance of the library infrastructure. Through the library committee the resource and relevant library materials are collected and different folders (media, new arrivals, etc.) are maintained.


The library data are fully maintained by programmed software to our own needs. Computerised author and title catalogues which facilitate the user to find out the availability, nature of the resource materials and details of their account.  Reprography facility is available at nominal cost. Adequate number of computers and internet facilities for optimum use.


The monthly report for various library transactions is submitted to the library committee which consists of the principal and the two staff. Suggestion box is also kept in the library and the suggestions are consolidated and submitted to the committee for decision making.

Digitalised Library and Computer cum Language Laboratory
 
ICT as Learning Resources
 

Digitalised Library and Computer cum Language Laboratory are facilitated with 35 computers managed with a server, LAN and WAN networks with 8 hours power back-up, offline resources for language, personality development, movies and education (150 Tamil and English CD-ROMs). All the 100 student-teachers are divided into 4 groups and each group is trained in rotation in handling the MS-office, preparation of learning packages and downloading on-line materials.

The institution equipped with 36 computers with headphones, 2 Laptop computers and 150 Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Commerce and soft skills CD-ROMs. The student-teachers are encouraged to use the ICT materials for their individual learning and to develop teaching-learning materials for the internship. JAWS software is used by the visually impaired students. Language software is used for speech practice. Dry and wet specimens are prepared and used during practice teaching.

 

Theatre cum Auditorium

 

A multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 150, theatre cum auditorium with the seating capacity of 350, a separate room for music and sports are available in the institution. The Society vehicles are shared by the college.

 
Book Bank Facility
 

The Library has Book Bank facility for all the Economically Backward/ Other Backward Students. The Books from the Book Bank are issued on receipt of their requisite forms. 2-3 books regarding syllabus are issued to students for the whole year and taken back after final examination is over. The funds for this scheme are raised from Alumni Association of the college. Rupees Five is collected as service charge for a book.

 

POLICIES AND GUIDELINESS
Computer Laboratory

• The backbone of LCE is the well-equipped computer lab. Each student is allotted a system and is assigned a login ID.
• The students could avail the Internet facility on demand. They need to book in advance for availing this facility on a first come first served basis.
• The students should enter the lab only during their practical class. Apart from the allotted time, if a student wants to access the lab, he/she has to get a written permission from the Vice-principal.
• A written permission from the Vice-principal is required to install new software in the system.
• One of the Technical Assistants will always be present during the lab while the faculty member(s) review the work of the students in a round-robin manner from their supervisory desk.
• Students are not allowed to take print outs without prior permission.
• Students are not allowed to enter the lab with the footwear.
• Personal belongings must be left at the shelves outside the lab. The students are responsible for their belongings.
• The stools/keyboard/mouse/interactive console should be put back in order after use.
• Institute’s dress code must be adhered to.
• Strict silence has to be observed by the students in the lab.
• If there is any problem with the facilities, immediate reporting to Vice-principal must be done. Students are discouraged from solving the problem independently.
• Students can not modify the Firmware installed. Fail to do so will cause serious malfunction nto the workstation.
• Students must respect the privacy of other by refraining from accessing their files and / or electronic mail.
• Students can not delete or modify any file/files or directory/directories installed.
• No computer games from any source, either hard disk, floppy, CD-ROM, Internet, etc. At any time in the lab.
• Students should not view, print, copy or download pornography and phonographic materials in any form.
• Unauthorized Study material. CDs, Pen drives etc. Are not allowed into the lab. The students are allowed to save their work in the server only.
• The students from their systems shall delete no files.

 

Digital Library
Loyola College of Education Digital Knowledge Resource Centre was well designed by adding 20 computers for the staff and students who require to access and browse during and after college hours with advanced technological infrastructure, in terms of hardware and software that cater to the requirements of the students and teachers.

 

Knowledge Resource Centre (Library)
LCE has its own Knowledge Resource Centre that caters to all students and teachers. The total number of books for the library is increasing with each passing day. The sections of the library ranging from educational books to reference books and book bank contribute towards widening the horizons of knowledge amongst teacher trainees. The Digital Library initiates the students to make e-reading a hobby.

Access Regulations
Users
All bonafide students of LCE in possession of the identity card are entitled to use KRC facilities. KRC maintains record of all users who avail the facilities of the centre.

Property Counter
Except for some blank papers, the belongings of users such as bags, books, files, CDs, Pen drives and so on, are not allowed inside the facilities. At the Reception counter, shelves are provided for the users to keep their personal belongings.

Ambience at KRC
Absolute silence is maintained in KRC; no discussions are allowed inside the center. Chatting, sleeping and damaging of the resources/books are punishable.

 

Access to Circulation
• Students can access the Stack Section only during the fixed hours.
• Resources of Reference Section are given out for a short duration only with the explicit permission of Librarian.
• It is the responsibility of in-charge student to re-shelve the books on the racks. Users are not allowed to do the same by themselves.

All working days 08:00 am to 05:00 pm

 

b. Circulation of Resources
Issue and Renewal Norms
1. A user may borrow a maximum of two books at a time.
2. A book is issued for a period of one week to LCE students. Provided no one else had demanded the same book, it could be re-issued again only for a week.
3. For the staff a book could be issued for a period of two weeks, which could be re-issued for a period of two more weeks, if no else demands it.
4. A book will be entitled for home-reading, only when there are at least 2 copies.
5. Any expensive book (that is beyond Rs.500) will not be given for home-reading lies available in the library.
6. A fine will be collected from users who fail to return the books on due dates. Repeated offenders will not be allowed in Library.

 

Circulation of Reference(s)
1. The first copy of the book is always marked as Reference {R}. Also, books that cost beyond Rs.500 are marked as Reference {R} too.
2. No one can take a Reference book outside the facility, except with the explicit permission of Librarian.

 

Restitution for Damaged Resource(s)
Individual
In case of damage to the books/resources, the person responsible will have to pay for a fresh copy of the same and also a fine, fixed by Librarian.

Collective
If the person responsible for the damage is not known, then the entire student body will have to bear the cost of the resource(s).

Return of Resources/Books

1. No resources/books shall be retained with the students during vacations.
2. All books and resources shall be returned to the library before the commencement of vacations.

 

Student Directives

The students must be familiar with the quality Policy and Quality Objectives of the Institute and their academic goals. Students should take all efforts continuously and enable the institute to achieve these goals.

The Directives below are subject to changes by the Institute from time to time.

1. Students should be punctual for lecture and practical classes and submit assignments, records, and homework etc. in time.
2. 90% of attendance is necessary. Leave of absence will be granted only in rare cases (for pressing/valid reasons). For practical classes students should have completed all experiments/exercises as per schedule announced by the faculty.
3. Students should maintain satisfactory progress on all fronts.
4. Students should maintain good conduct inside and outside the classes.
5. Students should strictly adhere to corrective actions proposed by the college to maintain academic excellence.
6. Leave Applications: It is compulsory that a leave application be submitted for every day/period of absence.
7. Leave application should be presented to the Fr.Principal for approval and it shall be submitted to the HOD.
8. Unsatisfactory performance will make a student disqualified to continue their studies in the college.
9. Teacher Educators take attendance for each hour at the commencement of the class. Attendance once recorded will not be corrected later to include those students who report late.
10. Identity cards: Students are required to wear their identity cards (easily noticeable) when they are in the college campus and also when they represent the college in any forum. Not wearing the identity card will be considered as an act of indiscipline.
11. Language: The official language of the college is English. At all times, the language rule has to be followed. Vernacular languages are not entertained on the campus.
12. Hand book: The hand book has to be brought to all classes.
13. Dress: Male and Female students are expected to come in formals.
14. Certificates: The original certificates submitted by students at the time of admission to the college will be returned at the time of their leaving the college on completion of studies.
15. Mobile Phones: Mobile phones are not allowed for the students on the campus.
